        Saved Our LIVES!!

by Kandi on Tuesday, August 28, 2007

This car was by far the best car I have ever owned! It was roomy dependable and classy! Got great gas mileage and had alot of power. But most imoportant it saved my family's life! My husband, my two babies (2ys and 7m) and I were in a horrible rollover accident while driving this car. Just by looking at the car you would not expect there to be any survivors. But because of how well built the maxima was and having all 6 air bags deploy, with the help of seat belts and proper child seats, we all walked away without a broken bones or stiches! I thank God every day for sparing our lives and I know that if we were driving anything else our luck might not be so good.

        Higs and Lows

by Jimbo on Saturday, September 10, 2011

My 2004 has served me adequately, but not well. It's beautiful and has gadgets and gizmos galore. My wife loves the folding mirrors and heated steering wheel. We like the fact that the driver's seat memory includes mirror and steering wheel positions. Mechanically, we've been pleased with 30 MPG on long drives. What we didn't like was premature failure of struts and rear ABS system problems ($2000). We are still waiting for the transmission problems to surface, but are glad to wait.

Buy this generation, but not this year

by Erik on Tuesday, June 13, 2017

2004 is the first model year of this generation of the Maxima and shines with wonderful driving dynamics, comfortable interior, and many gremlins that are fixed in the following years. The engine in this vehicle is superb. If you drive frequently on the freeway or through downtown traffic it is compliant and has a smooth delivery of power. The interior is generous and I found the seats to be comfortable. However, this car is plagued with gremlins ranging from annoyances to nightmare fuel. The basic annoyances are that my interior trunk release and dash LEDS dont work anymore. Along with temperamental headlights (beware a fix it ticket) and a leaking moonroof (no idea why it doesnt open). There are 2 serious issues that you need to check out before purchasing this vehicle: Auto transmission will fail around 140k, and the passenger side floor will rust through. That being said, the engine is very reliable as my car has over 240k and is still running strong. Overall you should avoid the 2004 Nissan Maxima if cant be sure that the transmission has been replaced and if you see rust forming in the floor pans. However, the 2006-2008 years have fixed all of these problems and are considered by some to be some of the greatest cars ever made.
